Right-Wing Political Talk Shows

If you're new here and enjoyed what you read, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you don't miss a thing. Thanks for visiting!

I have to admit, I’ve never been one to listen to conservative talk shows much. In fact, I have no idea if the radio in my bedroom even gets AM stations, although I would guess that it does. The second radio in the house I know for a fact does not. Those are the only two radios we own, and they are rarely on. Everything for me comes through the Internet.

I went and visited my sister on the weekend of the first GOP debate, and in the car on the way to clogging practice for the kids, we listened to a couple of talk show hosts on the radio. I had heard the names like “Rush Limbaugh” and “Glenn Beck” before that, but I had never listened to these guys (other than short audio clips, of course.) That afternoon, listening in the car, I had fun. When I got back home, I thought, “I need to listen to these guys more.”

So I went to Glenn Beck’s site and tried to find his show to listen to online. Drove me crazy - he only releases small snippets of his shows, and not very often either (once or twice a month, maybe.) Everything else, you have to be a Glenn Beck Insider to listen to. I don’t have the money to pay to listen to him. Sad statement, but true. My husband would kill me if I started paying money to listen to guys rant and rave about the state of America. :-P

So I had to say goodbye to Glenn even though he is a favorite of most of my family; I found out later that apparently I was the only one in the family not tuning into conservative talk shows every day. Who knew?

Without any idea of who to look for next, I decided to do a Google search to find a conservative talk show. I found one who was very conservative, and who happened to have all of his audio files online, free to listen to at any time, available to anybody. I was really excited about that, until I found out (as I listened to him) that he was An Angry American. He spent almost his entire show ranting and raving about this and about that, and by time I finished listening to his show, I was mad!! I wasn’t mad at him, I wasn’t mad at what he was mad at (because I didn’t entirely agree with everything that he said) but he had been so angry and so tense and so negative, I couldn’t help but feel the same way. I had listened to him for about four hours by that point, and I was stomping around the kitchen, pissed at the world. As I washing the dishes, I stopped myself. Why was I upset? What had made me upset? And I realized that this show put me into a really bad mood, when there really wasn’t a reason for me to be feeling that way. This guy was rude to his callers - he cut them off, called them idiots, told them he was right, they were wrong, and then hung up on them! This was a guy I want to be listening to every day? I think not.

I haven’t been back to his website since.

I don’t want to say his name because I don’t want anyone to get upset and start thrashing me over the head for feeling this way about their true hero, and this guy is the best talk show radio host in America, blah blah blah…I’ve come to realize that talk show hosts are a lot like food: Some people will love the anchovies, while others will hate them with a passion. It’s a very personal choice, and the great news is, you’ve got a whole smorgasboard to choose from, whatever fits your personality. I just happen to hate the anchovies.

I listened to Hugh Hewitt today, who I really liked, along with Michael Medved, both from the Townhall blogging site. I thought they were good - not rude, not horrid, but did stand their ground and speak their piece. I wish the audio files would come up the same day they are aired instead of the next day, but other than that small quibble, I was quite impressed. I have also listened to Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, and several others. I have been impressed with them all. I haven’t gone to Rush’s site yet - I ought to go check him out.

Who is your favorite talk show host? Leave your comments in the comment section - I would love to know who my listeners are listening to! Of course if we’re talking about talk shows, I ought to mention Political Vindication and the talk show they host every Wednesday night. They had me on this past Wednesday, and I have subscribed to their podcast so that even if I miss the live show, I can listen to it later. I’m excited about that!

People may wonder how I have so much time to listen to this stuff. No, I don’t have more hours in the day than the rest of the world, but I do have a (fairly boring) job of data entry from home (I have several side jobs, but this is one of them.) I copy and paste, over and over and over again. It’s monotonous, and takes about 2 brain cells, my eyeballs, and my fingers. The rest of me is completely unoccupied, and if I try to do this without having something to do and entertain myself with, I fall asleep within 10 minutes. I have to listen to something to keep myself awake. That’s how I managed to “watch” (well, listen to) every single video up on Mitt TV. I hit play and listen while I work. It’s the best job in the world when you can get paid to listen to something you enjoy and love, which is basically what I’ve got going on. So for me, I’m in constant search of something new to listen to. I worked my way through Mitt TV in one day (not kidding) and then worked my way through my collection of books on CD within two days. I had nothing left to listen to, and that happened to coincide with my return from my sister’s house where I had been introduced to talk radio for the first time. Wild, considering I’m from rural Idaho and the fact that listening conservative talk radio is a statewide pastime, but true.

It’s 1:00 in the morning, and I am officially rambling (I am so utterly tired I can’t keep my eyes open) so I’m going to sign off and go to sleep. Catch y’all on the flipside!

Hmmm…angry guy sounds like Mike Savage!

Rush is brilliant, but a little too male chauvanist for my tastes at times, and a lot too proud of himself.

Bill Bennett - http://www.bennettmornings.com/ - is a great guy. His show is on Sirius, but I think you can listen to him at the website. He’s an older guy and reminisces a lot…I enjoy the nostalgia.

Mike Church is another Sirius guy…Sirius Patriot, channel 144, is awesome. That’s where my radio lives. Might consider it, if you can. Only a few dollars a month, and you get so much stuff. Anyway, Mike Church is totally different from Bennett…he’s rowdy, contemporary and gets your blood flowing. http://www.mikechurch.com will get you to the “Red, White and Dude Nation.”

Hewitt, of course, as a huge Romney supporter, walks on water!

Enjoy the journey….boy, are you gonna get an earful! ;-)

Oops…looks like I lied to you….you can’t listen to Bennett at his web site unless you subscribe. Lots of radio stations have internet simulcasts, though…he has a station locator on the site, so maybe you can find him that way.

You can try Sirius online for three days for free…http://www.sirius.com

I never really gave right-wing talk radio shows a chance until about a year and a half ago. I’m a proud glenn beck insider and i’ll occasionally listen to Rush when I have time. Another conservative talk show host that you might like is a guy named Pat Gray. He has free podcasts on his website at >>http://www.patgray.com/
