As some people may have heard, Maine held their caucuses for president today on the Republican side. Maine was a state that, for all intents and purposes, should have been a slam dunk for John McCain. He not only had the following people endorsing him, but they were also on John McCain’s Leadership Team for Maine: John R. McKernan (former governor of Maine); and Olympia J. Snowe and Susan M. Collins, the two current Republican Senators from Maine. To top it all off, there were 21 state legislators who also backed McCain. Add into the mix that McCain raised more money in Maine than Romney did (not something you saw often - Mitt Romney generally beat McCain’s bum in fundraising) and you could almost start to believe that there could be no way that McCain could lose Maine.
But today Mitt Romney won the gold in Maine, and in a very big way. We’re only up to 68% of the precincts reporting, but there is no doubt that Romney won, by a huge landslide no less. Current tally:
Romney: 52%
McCain: 21%
Paul: 19%
Huckabee: 6%
Undecided: 2%
For a while there, Paul was ahead of McCain, and I had great hopes that he would beat McCain. At the moment, McCain has gained a small lead but there is still a chance yet that Paul could pull out a second place. Wouldn’t that be delicious irony: After all of the support and the yackity-yacks talking up McCain, he would take third, far, far behind Mitt, and even behind Paul. We can hope.
Either way, it is a delicious victory, because it shows that when the media stays out of the way and lets the people just vote, they overwhelming vote in favor of Romney. Romney has done extremely well in three contests so far, and won a fourth by a fair margin. The three he did amazingly well in were Wyoming, Nevada, and now Maine. In all three where he won by LARGE margins, the media didn’t focus on the race much, and the people were not inundated with news reports done by the “We Love McCain” media (also known as the mainstream media.) Left to their own devices, and their own investigations of Romney and McCain online, voters overwhelming chose Mitt.
The media will most likely disparage this caucus too, in an attempt to downplay Romney yet again. Never mind that this will mean that Romney will have won more states than McCain, and will have roughly the same amount of delegates. No, if the media brought that up, no doubt they’d get kicked off the air for giving such “biased” coverage of the race.
Whether the MSM wants to admit it or not, Romney is not out, not by a long shot. It’s time to Rally to Romney, FredHeads, Rudyiacs, and MittHeads alike!!! We know who the conservative is! And to the Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee supporters: Whether you want to admit it or not, it’s time to face the facts - this has quickly become a two-man race. Do you want a conservative nominee or a moderate (on a good day - liberal 89% of the time) nominee? There is no other plausible scenario. Choose, and please do so wisely. The future of our great country is in your hands.
America, it’s time to decide. For me, the choice has been made: RALLY TO ROMNEY!!!!!!

UPDATE: I was just informed via email that Mitt never campaigned in Maine. His son Josh did, but Mitt never did, not even once. And yet he still killed McCain in the state. I think there’s reason to believe that Maine is the beginning of Mitt’s comeback. I am just waiting for the MSM’s excuse for this - Mitt’s father wasn’t a governor there, there is most definitely NOT a strong contingency of Mormons in the state, and in fact the Republicans in the state tend to be fairly moderate. Yet Mitt still won. Why? Because people have had a chance to see McCain in action (ie, the California debate where he was absolutely proven to be a liar) and are sick of politics as normal. Let’s change Washington - VOTE MITT FOR PRESIDENT!!!
UPDATE 2: I just found a blog by the esteemed Mike Laub (a Romney guru - this man knows everything there is to know about Mitt, and then some) stating that McCain won Maine in 2000 in his race against Bush. He received 44% of the vote in that race. Yet another reason that McCain should have stomped Mitt flat in Maine! This is the second caucus of the season, the other being Iowa and Mike Huckabee’s win there. Caucuses are just as important and viable as primaries, and we need to spread the word that Mitt won this one easily. Go Mitt!!!

I’d switch to Mitt if he didn’t have the same warmongering mentality of all of the other republicans except Ron Paul. He doesn’t understand economics any better than McCain does if he thinks he can get us out of the coming recession without getting us out of foreign wars and occupation.

Glenn Beck’s interview with the GAO Comptroller General, David Walker, on January 9th in “Touching the Third Rail” states the obvious, the U.S. economy is bankrupt. Glenn’s video is available on YouTube.
Along the same lines, an article in the Asia Times, by Chalmers Johnson dated Jan. 24th, entitled “Going Bankrupt: The US’s Greatest Threat.” explains the reasons how the ecomomy became bankrupted. The Chalmers article explains “military Keynesianism”, which is the reason the U.S. is bankrupt. President Eisenhower had alluded to the danger of maintaining a large military industrial complex in his Farewell Speech, “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”
In other words I agree with Bob D.

I read the interview done with the comptroller, and thought it was most excellent. (Huge fan of Glenn Beck - get his newsletter every day - read most transcripts he links to in the newsletter.) I am one of those who believe that America is about to enter into a long and drawn out economic recession, maybe even another horrible depression.
I have to ask: Did either of you read my column “Why I Choose Mitt Romney Over Ron Paul”, including the comments at the end? You’ll see that I am FAR more sympathetic towards Ron Paul than most other Mitt Romney supporters (or Huckabee or McCain supporters for that matter.) At the last debate, it made me mad that the moderators wouldn’t let Ron Paul speak for more than a few seconds at a time, when they deigned to let him speak at all. That was horrid of them, no two ways about it. The libertarian in me is a fan of Ron Paul.
I understand why you have a problem with the Iraq War. I do too. But (and this is something I get into in the above blog and comment section, so PLEASE read before responding here) I believe there is absolutely no way that Ron Paul can plausibly win the nomination. I believe there is absolutely no way that Mike Huckabee can plausibly win the nomination. So when you get down to just McCain and Romney, you’ve got a choice of either selecting a man who doesn’t seem to understand that you want timetables and goals in order to gauge your progress in Iraq, and who thinks that we can easily be there for the next 50 years and has no problem with that, or you’ve got a man who wants to “win” in Iraq by having the country stable, and then will gladly get us the heck out of there.
Mitt Romney is NOT warmongering. John McCain is. They are your two choices, like it or not. It makes a lot more sense to chose Mitt, if your goal is to have our stay in Iraq as short as possible. I am NOT saying that Mitt wants to pull out right away, as Ron Paul does. I am NOT saying that Mitt wants to declare defeat like the Democrats do. But when it comes to the Republican race, and the two choices you have left, Mitt is as good as it gets.
Plus you have the added bonus of him having 20+ years of experience in the private sector to draw on, to help us with the oncoming depression that is about to hit us. Or you can choose the man who readily admits he knows little to nothing about the economy but no worries because “he bought Alan Greenspan’s book.”
Give me a break.

Everyone should vote their concious.. not for who had the latest win. I’ll vote for Ron Paul regardless of polls or current vote outcomes. That’s what voting is about. It’s not a soccer match. Vote for the candidate you agree with or you undermine the voting process and democracy itself.

I meant vote your conscience! sorry

I suppose you would have an argument (though I wouldn’t agree with it) if there were truely a dime’s worth of difference between Mitt’s and John Mc’s war view. Truth is, bottom line… there isn’t. Both chuckle at the idea of getting out of Iraq “too soon”. Both will warmonger until 2013 if they get in. To them peacemakers are to be laughed at like they do to Ron Paul.
Besides I take a more Macavellian view. Let the Republican party destroy itself so it can truely rebuild. Voting for a half evil like Mitt will only encourage him. And the neocon warmonger branch of the Republican party needs do be destroyed.

We really don’t need ANOTHER businessman in the White house.
We need an expert on Economics, not an expert on how to turn a profit.
I’m sorry for you, that you are not able to vote for what you know is right. but rather who will win.
If anyone But Ron Paul wins, we all lose. Again.
Change your mind please.
