How To Send Illegal Aliens Home Peacefully

If you're new here and enjoyed what you read, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you don't miss a thing. Thanks for visiting!

I listened to an interview done by Mitt Romney on a popular talk radio show in Southern California called the Jon & Ken show. It’s quite long, but well worth listening. Here is a link to the interview itself, and here is a link to the follow up by listeners and the show hosts. Because the show is in Southern California, where they are dealing with a large illegal immigration problem, the interview focused a lot on illegal immigration.

Mitt’s answer was simple: If the companies get penalized and fined heavily for hiring illegal immigrants, they won’t do it anymore. It won’t make financial sense to do so. And if there is no work for illegal immigrants to do, then they will go home.

It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

Of course, he also talked about securing the border by building a fence and hiring more guards, etc, which is absolutely necessary. But the Democratic party wants everyone to believe that the Republican party is all for doing mass round ups, raids where the police swoop in and carry the illegal aliens off in chains back to Mexico. That won’t be necessary. The ones who want to make a living by working here won’t be able to, and they’ll go home. The ones who want to deal drugs, join gangs, etc, will be arrested by police after they commit these crimes, and once it is figured out that they are illegal aliens, they too will be sent home.

And we don’t just have to assume or hope that it will play out this way: It is already starting to happen. I was reading an article on Yahoo, where they were trying to stir up sympathy for illegal aliens by saying that they were losing their homes in the credit crisis also. Apparently the FHA’s program to help people buy homes does not require anything more than a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) which illegal aliens can easily get. The banks won’t ask for proof that they are here legally, for fear of being sued for discrimination. So through a large federal government program, many illegal aliens were allowed to buy homes here in the United States.

Does anyone else think the world has gone a little cockeyed?

Back the article: Because many of the illegal aliens were subprime borrowers, their mortgages are now being reset, and their payments are skyrocketing. Then add the following into the mix (and this is the money quote!):

“There is less work, and more fear (of deportation),” said one Mexican illegal immigrant who lives with his family in Kansas. “Employers are relying more and more on you having a Social Security number in order to work.”

Although there is no formal tally, Mexican consular sources say a growing number of illegal immigrants across the United States are starting to pack their bags and return home.

It is already starting to work. Just think of how many people would start heading home if they were required to show tamper-proof ID cards before being able to work! In the interview with Jon & Ken, Mitt said that it would be very easy to put together a tamper-proof ID card - just follow the example of Visa and American Express. Give the legal immigrants a card with 16 digits on it (or whatever) and have the employer type those digits into the computer (or swipe the card in a card reader.) The card would immediately pop up as being real or not. Slap a picture on the card, and put a picture of the person in the system, along with a simple physical description of them (as you would find on any driver’s license) and you’re set to go.

What a contrast to McCain and his Shamnesty program, eh? McCain has taken to saying at every campaign stop, “The people have spoken, I understand, I will build the fence first.” But then he was up in front of a group of businessmen, talking about illegal immigration, when he said the following:

McCain had been asked how debate over the immigration bill was playing politically. “In the short term, it probably galvanizes our base,” he said. “In the long term, if you alienate the Hispanics, you’ll pay a heavy price.” Then he added, unable to help himself, “By the way, I think the fence is least effective. But I’ll build the [BEEP!!] fence if they want it.

Ah yes, there’s the man who has “heard the people” and who “understands” that the fence needs to be built. Isn’t that what you got out of that? I especially liked the use of profanity. Such a presidential demeanor.

So on Super Tuesday, when you’re sitting in front of the ballot and asking yourself, “McCain or Mitt? Mitt or McCain?” just remember which one has it right on border control, on employment verification, and who actually believes that this is something that must be done for America. Still not convinced? Watch McCain on Meet the Press just last week (January 27, 2008):

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Tim Russert: “If the Senate passed your bill, the McCain-Kennedy Immigration Bill, would you as president sign it?”

John McCain: “Yeah, but look, the lesson is it isn’t won, it isn’t [garbled].”

If any readers can understand better that last sentence, please leave me a comment in the comment section and tell me what you think he said. I’ve played it and replayed it, and I can’t understand.

The important part is that McCain clearly said that he would sign the McCain-Kennedy bill if president.

So much for him having heard the people, and changed his mind. ‘Stubbornly wrong to the bitter end’ will be this man’s political epitaph.

Hey, really interesting concept. The other key factor to this though is to not give illegals further incentives to stay in our country. There is a move in some states to allow state colleges to give subsidized college education at state schools. If this happens, it will give illegal immigrants another reason to stay. I found a petition to stop this, http://petitionearth.com/viewpetition.php?id=63 Plus, as we get signatures, money is donated to the National Border Patrol Council. Please, sign now to help solve this problem. Thanks for this great article!

    John Ford »

Yes, and that is something that greatly bothers me about Mike Huckabee. That is something that he fought for in Arkansas. Uggh!

Thanks for the comment - have a great day!

Hey, did you ever get the email I sent with the video from Penn & Teller’s show, BS? I didn’t get a response to it from either you or Dad. If you *did* get (and watch) it, then what’s with the stumping for a fence? And if you didn’t, well, then I’ll send it again :-)

Hi brother! Send it to me again - I don’t remember receiving it.

Sarah, thanks for the comment on the blog set-up. I am having problems with my blog, and I was hoping a new theme would solve the problem. We shall see. So far, I’m liking the new theme too.

I haven’t made any calls yet for the campaign, but I plan on doing so tomorrow. I’m excited about that. I’m jealous you get to vote on Tuesday - my turn doesn’t come until May. :-( I think Mitt has a great chance in California - go Mitt go!

I think it is necessary to raid the streets to rid illegals we have enough problems with gangs today with out having to add to the masses of illegals forming gangs in our streets jails and prisons are already over croweded so if we deport them now we would save a lot on tax dollars in legal representation for immigrants and tax dollars being spunt on feeding and housing inmate illegals I say lets get a bus and round them up and head them across the border its easy simple and and it guarntees that a company want employ them. By fining a company that does nothing its like putting a drink in front of a recovery alcoholic they have made so much money in hiring illegals by payinf low wages they have the stored money to pay in fines and keep employing illegals and just take the loss in fines each time. The bottom line is they are illegal they must leave As we watch the law is being broken.

Illegal aliens will always be here. This is also a tough subject to debate cause it can go either way.
